Here is the second half of the freezer finds challenge.
These were some super practical finds, that I slowly allow to accumulate in the freezer each month.
Bone Broth: I slowly collect leftover roasted chicken bones throughout the week or month. When we have roast chicken, chicken wings, or chicken legs on the grill, I keep the bones after we've eaten off the meat. I consistantly have an accumulating 1 gallon ziplock 'bone bag' in the freezer. Once it's full, it's time for another batch. Each recipe makes about 1/2 a gallon of broth. I usually fill a large jar with the broth and use it throughout the week in my cooking.
Pinto Beans: I ususally always have beans in the freezer. Either from jars I didn't finish or leftovers from large batch cooking in the instant pot. They freeze beautifully! I consider this a convenience food; already cooked and ready to eat. This is the canning tutorial and these beans are something I always have on hand, either in the freezer or in a jar on the pantry shelf. Here is the recipe and video tutorial: Chili Beans. To defrost, leave it on the counter during the day, or in the fridge over night. To reheat, add to a hot pan, add 1/4 to 1/2 cup of water, add a lid and allow to seam. This recipe works for all kinds of beans.
Fire Cider: People go crazy for this recipe. This stuff is coined as the "amish amoxicillin" and it does just that. It is my cure all for every nasty bug you might come in contact with over the flu and cold season. I take a tablespoon of this as a preventative if i've been around larger crowds, have a tickle in my throat. Yes, it doesn't taste the best, but i'll do anything to ward off an illness.
I hope you give some of the recipes a try, and if you do, leave me a comment and let me know how they turned out.
